Cruquius Watermerken shortlisted in Public Space Competition18-11-2010
18 December last, the awards for the competition on Cruquius Island in Amsterdam were presented. Our entry 'Cruquius Watermerken' was selected among 5 for the last round in a total of 66 entries. B+B from Amsterdam was awarded the first prize.
In this competition, the Platform Openbare Ruimte asked for innovative visions on redevelopment of an outdated business park in the port of Amsterdam. The aim was to transform this derelict area into a full part of the city. The most important aspect was the role of public space in this process.
The jury's view on 'Cruquius Watermerken': " A smart, audacious and intelligent plan, that is very precise in its simplicity. The proposed operations are to the point and essential. The rest can develop around it. This plan touches on the essence of public space and is distinctive as it connects different places. The jury is impressed by the courage shown to explain only the most important measures. Also, the plan takes a clear point of view and shows a vision on branding the place."
