Zandbelt&vandenBerg

Zandbelt&vandenBerg is an office for architecture, urban design and spatial strategies. The practice designs ‘from the chair to the city’ and activities covers all stages between concept and realization.

Both partners in the office - Daan Zandbelt and Rogier van den Berg - have always interpreted ARCHITECTURE in its most exhaustive sense. The portfolio has no focus on specific types of assignments. The approach is always based on precise analysis of what the work is really about. Which will be used as the initial point for the design.

Zandbelt&vandenBerg’s work is characterized by profound understanding of the scales on which the design is operating. Each scale demands a different set of design tools. A villa for an art collector requires total control in details, up till the level of a light switch. For a sustainable neighbourhood of 4.200 dwellings in Almere on the other hand, we only regulate the essential basics of the plan by defining an urban framework. Thus, the neighborhood is allowed to grow over time.

Our clients range from private clients to public institutions and companies. At this moment, we work in a permanent team of six architects and urbanists plus assistance.

We are located in the Grotiushuis at the Westblaak in Rotterdam. The Westblaak is one of the principal boulevards as established in Van Traa’s 1946 Basic Plan for Rotterdam.  The Grotiushuis was designed in 1957 by architect Bakker and has been declared a municipal monument.
